Compliance & Product Safety

Product Safety Information

At Solar Buddies, the safety of our customers - especially little ones - is something we take seriously. Here's everything you need to know about our products and how to use them safely.

The Solar Buddies Applicator

Our award-winning Solar Buddies applicator is an empty, refillable sunscreen applicator designed for use with your chosen sunscreen. It does not contain any sunscreen, lotion, or formulation of its own.

• Suitable for children aged 3 and over, with adult supervision for younger children

• Designed for external use only - apply sunscreen to skin as directed by your sunscreen manufacturer

• Keep out of reach of children when not in use

• Do not use if the applicator is cracked, damaged, or the sponge head appears worn

• Rinse with warm water regularly to maintain hygiene

• Do not fill with any substance other than sunscreen lotion or cream

Other Solar Buddies Products

We also stock a range of accessories including clips, drinks bottles, and plush toys. All products are tested to the relevant UK and EU safety standards for their category and are CE/UKCA marked where applicable.

Third-Party Products

Some products available on our website - including Altruist sunscreen, mini first aid kits, and Savvi Sand - are manufactured and sold by third parties. These products carry their own safety certifications and compliance documentation from their respective manufacturers. Please refer to the individual product packaging and manufacturer guidance for full safety information.

Incident Reporting

Your safety and the safety of your family is our absolute priority. If you have experienced an incident, injury, or adverse reaction relating to a Solar Buddies product, we want to hear from you straight away.

What Counts as an Incident?

• A physical injury caused by a product defect (e.g. a sharp edge, broken part, choking hazard)

• An allergic reaction or skin irritation — note that the Solar Buddies applicator itself contains no ingredients, but reactions to sunscreen used with it should still be reported to us

• A product failure that posed a safety risk, even if no injury occurred

• Any situation where a child was put at risk through normal use of the product

How to Report

Please contact us as soon as possible after the incident:

• Email: help@solarbuddies.co.uk — please use the subject line INCIDENT REPORT

• Include your name, contact details, order number, and batch number if available

• Describe what happened in as much detail as possible

• If safe to do so, please retain the product — we may ask you to return it for investigation

What Happens Next

• We will acknowledge your report within 1 working day

• Our team will investigate and assess the incident

• Where required under GPSR or UK product safety legislation, we will report serious incidents to the relevant national authority (OPSS in the UK, or the relevant EU market surveillance authority)

• We will keep you updated throughout the process

For third-party products (Altruist, mini first aid, Savvi Sand), please also contact the relevant manufacturer directly. We can provide their contact details on request.

Product Recall & Corrective Action

Although we work hard to ensure every Solar Buddies product meets our quality and safety standards, we take our responsibility to act quickly and transparently very seriously if a safety issue ever arises.

How We Will Notify You of a Recall

If a product recall or corrective action is required, we will notify affected customers through all of the following channels as quickly as possible:

• Direct email to customers who purchased the affected batch

• Prominent notice on our website homepage and product pages

• Posts across our social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok)

• Notification to retail partners carrying the affected product

• Notification to the relevant national safety authority where required by law

What to Do if a Product is Recalled

• Stop using the product immediately

• Do not return it to a retailer — follow the specific instructions in the recall notice

• Contact us at help@solarbuddies.co.uk quoting your order number and the recall reference

• We will arrange a full refund or replacement and, where required, a prepaid return

Corrective Actions

In some cases, a corrective action may be issued rather than a full recall — for example, a safety notice or updated usage guidance. These will be communicated in the same way and clearly labelled on our website.

Current Recalls

There are no active product recalls at this time.

Batch Traceability

Every Solar Buddies product can be traced back to its production batch. This means that if a safety concern is ever identified, we can act quickly, communicate clearly, and minimise any risk to our customers.

How Traceability Works

Every Solar Buddies applicator has a date code moulded directly into the inside of the lid. This date code shows the month and year of manufacture — and because we only ever produce one batch per month, this is your unique batch identifier. It’s a permanent mark that can’t be removed or lost.

Where to Find Your Date Code

• On the Solar Buddies applicator: look inside the lid — you’ll see a clock symbol with the month and year of manufacture moulded into the plastic. Quote this when contacting us (e.g. “03/25” for March 2025)

• On accessories (clips, bottles, plush toys): printed on the product label or packaging

• On third-party products (Altruist, mini first aid, Savvi Sand): refer to the individual product packaging — these manufacturers maintain their own batch records

Why This Matters

If you ever need to raise a complaint, report an incident, or check whether your product is subject to a recall, your date code helps us identify exactly which production run your applicator came from so we can respond quickly and accurately. Please always quote it when contacting us.

Contact Us

If you have any questions about batch traceability or need help locating your date code, please contact us at help@solarbuddies.co.uk and our team will be happy to help.
